Introduction
A Why Learn?
A1 – So that we are able to teach others
2Ti 2:24
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto
all
men,
apt to teach, patient,
2Ti 2:25
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God
peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of
the truth;
There will be times when people are going through a difficult time
and they might not handle it the way you would have, i.e. by swearing,
loosing their tempers, getting a panic attack, going for a divorce etc.
This is not the time to be proud, but the right time for you to show
that you understand that you are there to support them.
This is especially true in marriages. You know your partner's
weaknesses. Do you use this as an opportunity to remind them that you
are more spiritual than your partner or is this the time to, through
love, draw them gently back to yourself and God.
A2
- To get out of the snare of the devil
2Ti 2:26
And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the
devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Can the devil do
anything against us? The Bible states that the devil has some wiles
(trickery), i.e. he can do nothing against you, but he can try and trick
you into thinking that he can:
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be
able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
How do we fight this trickery?
Eph 6:13
Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be
able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand
therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having
on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15 And your
feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 Above
all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to
quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17 And take
the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is
the word of God:
Eph 6:18 Praying
always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and
watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for
all saints;
-
A day may come that we will perceive as an evil day when
everything seems to be going wrong
-
We have to know the truth in order to know what God's will
in this situation is. If you do not know your rights, you will not
know that you do not have to accept the sickness, financial
problems, people talking behind your back, inflation rates, petrol
prices, hijackings etc.
-
We need to understand the righteousness (honesty, justice)
of God. You have already been found guilty. You have already been
sentenced. Jesus already came and paid the price for our sins. God
is righteous, He will never judge us a second time. We are no dead
and living in Christ. He is honest and cannot lie (it is not that He
will not lie, He cannot lie), Every place in the Bible where He
states "Verily verily...", He knows that it is so radical that we
might not believe it, but it is most definitely true.
-
Faith is what makes the whole new life work. Without it, it
is impossible to believe God. Without it you cannot obtain any of
God's promises.
-
You need to be saved, not just from going to hell, but also
from poverty, a weak self image, guilt and sickness. We need to
accept what Jesus said and accept prosperity as belonging to us.
-
We need to read and understand the Bible - but we also need to be
able to listen to God's Word that He speaks directly to us - via the
Bible, visions, dreams etc.
-
We need to pray - both in the mind and in the Spirit.
A3
- The time will come when real knowledge will be difficult to find
2Ti 4:3
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;
but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves
teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4
And they shall turn away
their
ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
Examples of fables are:
-
Your baby gets his / her name
during baptism. Your baby actually got it's name when the
father registered it within 8 days at the registrars office.
-
You get married in church.
The church is a wonderful place to make a commitment to each
other, but the marriage part has to be done by a person who is a
Commissioner of Oaths. If the pastor is not one, the marriage is
legally not binding.
-
The church is the building in
which the people congregate. We are actually the church and
the Spirit of God dwells in us, not in the building. This change
took place when the old testament was done away with and the new
one was introduced.
-
It is crucial for your child
to go through a thorough course in order to confess their faith
(geloofsbelydenis) and then participate in the holy communion
(nagmaal). All your child has to do is accept Jesus as his /
her Savior and then they have confessed their faith and can
participate in holy communion. Our child already knew the whole
redemption plan at 3 years of age and could explain it clearly
to somebody else.
-
The pastor has to serve holy
communion. The priest of the house serves the holy
communion.
-
Most of the churches today
will not tolerate a person in their church if this person has a
message from God that differs from their own. They have
learnt well from the world.
A4
- You cannot survive without knowledge
Hos 4:6 My
people are destroyed for lack of knowledge
If we do not know God's Word and will for us as well as His
character, we will believe all types of things that are not true
like:
-
He makes us sick to bring us closer to Him
-
He called somebody to Him with a "higher" calling and that is
why they died so young
-
We should only have enough money so that we can get by. God
sees more than that greed
-
God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts so we can never
understand Him
A5 – Becoming Perfect
2Ti 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable
for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:
2Ti 3:17
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto
all good works.
God wants us to become perfect. We cannot use the excuse that we sinned
because we are only human. Sometimes we sin because we think that we
will not be caught. If we are caught we feel bad - but that is not
repentance. Repentance is when you get another way of thinking and
therefore sin no more.
We can and should become perfect - so that we are able to do good works.
Through these Good Works God is glorified.
B How do we get
Knowledge?
2Ti 3:1
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false
accusers, incontinent (powerless, without self-control), fierce,
despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors,
heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form
of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn
away.
2Ti 3:6 For of this
sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly
women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
2Ti 3:7 Ever
learning, and never able to come to the knowledge
of the truth.
B1 – Loving God is the beginning
of Knowledge
See
Love
B2 - Boasting is a warning
sign
We are supposed
to be dead. People should not boast about themselves but
rather boast that they know and understand God
B3
- If you children do not obey you, they are in danger
There are many reasons why our
children will not listen to us:
Whatever the reason, they are
in danger of falling into the category of people who will
keep on learning and never learn the truth - mostly because
the truth does not suit them.
B4
- Watch out for those who appear to be godly, but they have no
power
There is not a lot of
difference between the Pharisees of old and many churches of
today. They have various rules that sound spiritual but they
cannot heal the sick, they cannot raise the dead and they
cannot even live in harmony with their fellow man.
B5
- It is possible to learn but never get to the truth
There are theologians and
pastors today who have spent 7 years or more studying the
Scriptures but are still not born again.
C
What is Love?
See
Love
2Ti 1:7 For God hath not
given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a
sound mind.
Rev 12:11 And they overcame
him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;
and they loved not their lives unto the death
