When we start our Christian walk, there are some basic principles that we have to understand in order to go on to perfection. These
basic principles are covered in this section. Before looking at
foundational truths, it is important for us to understand what it means
to be “born again”.
Before we actually go into this session of Foundational Truths, we
have determined that we are born again,
now we must determine whether we are able to handle the information
contained in Foundational Truths
1Co 3:1 And I, brethren, could
not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as
unto babes in Christ.
2 I have fed you with milk,
and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither
yet now are ye able.
3 For ye are yet carnal: for
whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are
ye not carnal, and walk as men?
4 For while one saith, I am of
Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
How do we know whether we are mature enough to handle this
information? Well, here is a check:
- Are we jealous of somebody else - position, status,
possessions, ...
- Do we have the following symptoms: Conflict, discord,
friction, rivalry, contention?
- Are there divisions among us? E.g. Baptist, Methodist,
Reformed, Apostolic Faith Mission, ...
If we have these symptoms, we first have to deal with them otherwise
it will be difficult to understand the Foundational Truths because we
are still carnal, thinking, walking and acting like mere man.
Now let’s see how people can grow up. What do they need other than being born again to grow spiritually to the place where they can discern between good and evil.
First, it is important to lay a foundation. This foundation is the first step to growing up – rather like pre-school.
In Heb 6:1, Paul is saying that he did not want to lay the foundation again, but carry on to perfection. What is this foundation?
